UK Qualifiers Day 4 - Whirlwind Makes A Storm

It's the fourth day of action at the UK Championship qualifiers in Sheffield and the second round matches are concluded. The biggest name in play today was crowd favourite; Jimmy White. It was a much harder win for the on and off pro Matthew Selt today though.

Jimmy White in the SWSA arena

People's champion Jimmy White missed out on last year's UK Championship and nearly got relegated off the tour after he left to appear on ITV1's I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! But today in Sheffield he was nearly back to his best by convincingly defeating Adam Wicheard 9-1 to set up a third round tie with Adrian Gunnell.

Matthew Selt at the Grand Prix

London pro Matthew Selt had a brilliant start to the 09/10 season by qualifying for both the Shanghai Masters and the Grand Prix but since then has had little to show for his efforts. He is now one stage closer to making his debut at the UK Championship by narrowly beating PTC finalist Jack Lisowski in a long lasting final frame 9-8. He now faces EPTC winner Dominic Dale.

Another White to make it through to the third round was Michael White from Wales. After impressing in his first round match he went another step closer to Telford by dominating his match with David Morris to win 9-4. He now faces stiff opposition in the form of Shanghai Masters finalist Jamie Burnett.
