Apart from defeating John Parrott 5-0 last season, Welsh youngster Michael White didn't have much to show for last season, but impressed today with a 9-6 win over Justin Astley. He now faces a sterner test in the improved Irish player David Morris in the second round.
Another young gun to make it through was Jack Lisowski in what was arguably the tie of the round against rising Chinese star Zhang Anda. Both battled valiantly but it Lisowski who came up tops with his extra PTC experience this season and won it comfortably 9-4.
Unfortunately it wasn't to be for Ladies World Champion Reanne Evans. After losing all 11 of her first round matches this season she was hoping to finally get a win under her belt but she met strong opposition in the form of Chinese player Xiao Guodong who wasted no time dispatching Reanne 9-1. She will need to start winning matches in the second half or the season or tour relegation looks imminent, hopefully she turn her game around in time for the German Masters qualifiers in January.
