Glasgow's Anthony McGill was the only home player to make it through the first day of professional matches at the Scottish Open on Friday in a chilly Ravenscraig.

21-year-old McGill who was tipped by John Higgins to be the next big player to come from the country, recorded impressive wins against Michael Wasley (4-0), UK Championship semi-finalist Mark Davis (4-3) and Rob Milkins (4-0) to reach the last 16 on Sunday.

Also to make it through to his first, last 16 in a pro tournament was London's Martin O'Donnell, who edged out Craig Steadman 4-3 just past midnight. It's his first season on the pro tour and since winning the Snookerbacker Classic earlier in the year he seems to be progressing really well.

Norway's only professional, Kurt Maflin impressed today in Ravenscraig, making a 147 in his third round victory over Stuart Carrington 4-1. It's the 96th official maximum in snooker history and already the eighth of the season.

Here is the lineup for the Last 16 so far;

Thailand T Thirapongpaiboon    v England Barry Hawkins
England Nigel Bond v Scotland Anthony McGill
England Jimmy Robertson
v   England Andrew Higginson
Norway Kurt Maflin
v England Martin O'Donnell
