The last attempts to stream World Snooker qualifiers were during the 2009/2010 season when in partnership with 110sport.tv they broadcasted decent live action from the Shanghai Masters and Grand Prix qualifiers. Unfortunately though they didn't get enough people signing up to the service and died as quick as it began.
Now almost two years later, World Snooker has partnered with Perform group who already helps them with their Championship League streaming on betting sites to produce live streaming from events on the LiveWorldSnooker.TV website. For people in the UK & Europe it is £2.99 a month or £29.99 for a year, for the rest of the world it is £3.99 a month and £39.99 a year.
I duly registered this afternoon after hearing about the site. The process was simple and paying was a breeze (using PayPal) and straight away I had a choice of two tables from the Shanghai Masters qualifiers. The quality of the stream wasn't the best but it loaded fast and didn't stop to buffer once which is always good to see. There are no commentators as of yet but if it proves popular I'm sure some will be brough aboard and the quality will improve.
This is another massive step in the right direction for the sport and hopefully due to the renewed interest in Snooker in general around the world and the pricing being based on a monthly or yearly package instead of per event it will get more viewers this time around. If they could add the function to replay matches (like with the EuroSport player) then it will be perfect.
