World Seniors Snooker Championship 2017 - Preview

Seven-time Crucible champion Stephen Hendry will be looking to earn a place at the World Championship qualifiers as he competes against other legends at the World Seniors Snooker Championship this week at The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe.

As well as the £10,000 first prize and trophy, the winner of the 12-man tournament gets a spot to compete amongst the pros at the world qualifiers in Ponds Forge, Sheffield between 5-12 April 2017.

Stephen HendryScotland's Hendry kicks off his tournament campaign this Thursday against the winner of 1986 world champion Joe Johnson and former Crucible quarterfinalist Patrick Wallace.

Also competing this week is 1985 world champion fan-favourite Dennis Taylor who faces a tough opener against the winner of Patsy Fagan and Peter Lines, with the latter expecting to be favourite to lift the title this week as he recently competed on the main professional snooker tour.

Also in action is 1991 world champion and pundit John Parrott who plays either Willie Thorne or Aiden Owens in his quarterfinal match, and Canadian legend Cliff Thorburn who faces the winner of another all-English clash between Tony Knowles and Jonathon Bagley.

The newly revamped World Seniors Snooker Championship, which is open to amateurs only for the first time, was the brainchild of Snooker Legends creator Jason Francis.
