Day 4
It's the fourth day at the International Centre, Telford and one player who is back on the up is Northern Ireland's best; Mark Allen. Who impressed today with a win over the defending UK Champion, Ding Junhui. Mark had a strong 6-2 lead overnight after the first session but saw his lead slip away when Ding made breaks of 78 and 103. Allen should of won the next but ding won it on a respotted black to close to 6-5. Allen won the next but Ding battled back to 7 frames a piece. Â The next two frames were shared to set up a nerve-racking decider. Ding made a 35 break before missing an easy black. Allen got back in and made a match winning clearing of 40. He now faces Ronnie slayer Stuart Bingham who demolished Marco Fu 9-2, the best score of the last 16.
Â
Also through the quarter finals is Scotland's no.2 Stephen Maguire who shocked the favourite Mark Selby 9-7. Leading 5-3 overnight, Stephen extended his lead to 9-7 with a high break of 72, but Mark hit back to 7-7 with breaks of 75 and 51. But Stephen wasn't going to go down without fight and produced breaks of 56 and a spectacular 135 total clearance to win the match 9-7.
