After team England (World no.1 & 2 Mark Selby & Stuart Bingham) and both the Irish and Northern Irish teams failed to progress to the quarterfinals of the Snooker World Cup in Wuxi, China, it was left to just Scotland and Wales to represent to home nations.

John Higgins SnookerScotland (John Higgins & Stephen Maguire) had arguably the toughest tie of the round against defending champions China A (Ding Junhui & Xiao Guodong). Although China A had the first chance, it was the Scots who prevailed in the scrappier frame to win through to the semfinals, 4-1 winners. They recovered in style with runs of 83, 50, 60 and 69 to take the next four frames on the bounce to win comfortably 4-1.
