Scottish Open - Resurgent Ding takes title in Ravenscraig

Ding Junhui played some excellent snooker, including making seven centuries on the way to winning the Scottish Open 2012 (European Tour Event 5) in Ravenscraig, beating home favourite Anthony McGill 4-2 in the final.

Scotland's Anthony McGill was the only man to make it through to the last 16 of his home event and impressed throughout Sunday, but unfortunately came up short in the final as the experienced Ding Junhui won the Scottish Open 4-2.

China's no.1 has looked in great form throughout the event including having made seven centuries on the run to the final where he faced McGill who himself had come through an epic 4-3 match on the black ball in the decider against Andrew Higginson in the semi-finals.

In the final Ding got off to the best start with runs of 71 and 77 helping the former UK and Masters champion establish a 2-1 lead before the 21-year-old from Glasgow made a fine 66 to level the match.

McGill made a 49 in the 5th but ended up losing it after Ding made a 40 clearance and in the 6th frame after the Scot missed a blue it was the man from China to finished up in fine style with a 71 clerance to seal victory at 4-2.

The win comes at a perfect time for Ding who has struggled for consistancy in 2012 and he hasn't won a single event this season so he will be glad to be taking the 12,000 Euro first prize and the trophy home with him. It's also great to see McGill reach his first major final after a promising first few years on the tour, lets hope he can push and have a 2013 to remember.
