Apart from winning the 2009 IBSF World Amateur Championship, Alfie Burden has done little else of note in snooker, and many were expecting an easy victory for world no.1 Judd Trump in their evening match in Galway.

The Londoner raced in to a 2-0 lead after Trump missed a crucial red with the rest in the second frame. The International Champion was really not at his best but errors from both meant he was able to level the match at 2-2.

Burden had two decent chances to pot the pink to win the match 4-2, but a botched safety stuck it up for Trump, who slotted it in to force the decider.

Devoted Arsenal fan Burden needing little convincing in the final frame, and potted some of the best balls of the season to make an incredible 113 break to send the world no.1 home in the first round.

He faces Xiao Gudong in the last 16, who himself who himself pulled off an upset by beating an out-of-sorts Graeme Dott 4-1 earlier in the day (watch that interview here).

The other big results today included German Masters champion Ali Carter pulling off a convincing 4-2 win over John Higgins, Ding Junhui beating Andrew Higginson 4-3 and PTC2 winner Rod Lawler dispatching Cao Yupeng 4-2 in the morning.
