Nugget shines at the World Seniors Championship

Nugget shines at the World Seniors Championship

Steve Davis has won his first televised snooker event in 15 years, beating Nigel Bond 2-1 in the final to win the 888Casino World Seniors Championship 2013 at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.

The last time six-times World Champion Steve Davis won a televised snooker event it was the 20th century, 1998 in the Red Bull Challenge against Stephen Hendry to be precise.

Since then the Nugget has come close several times to winning events, the most notable being his narrow 9-8 loss to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the 2004 Welsh Open final.

Finally at age of 56 (still by far the oldest player on the pro tour) he has added to his silverware collection once again, coming from a frame down to beat Nigel Bond 2-1 in the final of the 888Casino World Seniors Championship in Portsmouth.

Davis probably won't win another full ranking title in his career, but by judging from the way he played tonight it can't ever be said that he can't win more smaller events in the years to come, especially shorter format ones such as the European Tour events.
