Two new events have been announced by the Snooker Legends team for 2012. One is the Legends Cup, which sees teams of Legends from ‘England and Northern Ireland’ take on the ‘Rest of the World’ and the other sees Stephen Hendry take on Jimmy White at the Crucible before the World Championship.

The Snooker Legends Cup

This 3 day event will be staged at Bedworth Civic Hall in the Midlands and see a team from ‘England and Northern Ireland’ take on the ‘Rest of the World’ in Snooker’s version of the Mosconi & Ryder Cup.

Representing England and Northern Ireland will be:-Dennis Taylor (Capt.), Ronnie O’Sullivan, Jimmy White & John Parrott.

Up against them, and representing the ‘Rest of the World’ will be:-Cliff Thorburn (Capt.), Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty & Tony Drago

8 legends with 15 World titles between them and prize money on offer for the wining team.

John Virgo will still entertain with his live commentary and the world’s two leading referees, Michaela Tabb and Jan Verhaas, will keep everything in order!

Four Sessions, the first three consisting of two doubles matches and four singles, the last session is eight singles. Each match carries a point.

Captains will announce their pairings and line ups before each session and no doubles pairing can be repeated... so all team mates will partner each other once. The first team to get 18 points wins the cup.

Snooker Legends creator Jason Francis said “I’ve had the idea of a team event for some time and when I mentioned it to the players they were very excited at the chance to go head to head in this new format which moves away from our normal exhibitions.

Having Dennis and Cliff as Captains adds extra spice as their first match was in 1973 and they’re still as desperate to beat each other as they were back then...”

The weekend will kick off at the Weston Hall hotel on Friday 11th May with the opening Ceremony where Dennis and Cliff will play for the first point but also announce their pairings and match ups for the first session the next day.

Snooker fans will get the chance to join us that night and dine, mingle and dance the night away with all the legends.
