EPTC6 Day 1 - Matthew's Merit

EPTC6 Day 1 - Matthew's Merit

Day one of the sixth and last European Players Tour Championship event in Prague where the players all scramble to try and get into that all important top 24 to reach the PTC finals. One player who succeeded in doing that was Welsh former UK Champion Matthew Stevens.

World no.17 Matthew Stevens needed to put in a good showing at the last EPTC in Prague, Czech Republic to get into the top 24 on the order of merit and he did just that, beating amateur Jindrich Prchal 4-0, Jimmy White 4-2 and beating Jack Lisowski 4-3 in a tense final frame decider, it now all but guarantees he will be in Dublin for the televised finals in March.

It was not a good day for top PTC amateur Daniel Wells though. Being at 24th on the order of merit coming into this event, he needed to win at least two matches to get into the televised finals. But it was not to be as he bowed out in the first round to world no.86 Justin Astley 4-3. This now leaves him precariously placed on the table with Peter Ebdon and Anthony McGill within striking distance of his spot in the finals (Ebdon being already through to the last 16 of the tournament on Sunday).

Also world no.40 Rory McLeod made his first professional 147 break today against Thailand's Issara Kachaiwong today, but lost the match 4-3, more details here.
