EPTC5 Day 1 - Higgins Returns

EPTC5 Day 1 - Higgins Returns

It's the first day of the fifth European's Player Tour Chamionship in Hamm, Germany. The main story is the return of John Higgins to professional play, read on to find out how he fared.

John Higgins returned today in Hamm for EPTC5, he faced stiff competetion in the form of Joe Jogia, semi finalist in EPTC4. They both scrapped for the first frame but higgins won it 66-9. In the second frame showed a flash of former brilliance for a 50 break clearence to go 2-0, obviously not phased by his return. Jogia won the next but Higgins took the fourth with a marvellous 88 to go 3-1. Jogia took the next but John then followed up with a break of 51 to win the match and prove his doubters wrong, the Wizard is back.

In his next match he faced a higher ranked player in the form of Dave Harold, but in true style Higgins sped up a gear to win the match 4-0 with impressive breaks of 66, 99, 72 and 93 to win the match in an amazing 48 minutes. Next he faced one of the most improved players this season, Martin Gould. Gould raced to a commanding 3-1 lead but in typical Higgins fashion, John won the next 3 frames on the bounce to win the match 4-3, in what was one of the most remarkable days of the season. He next faces Tom Ford in the last 16 on Sunday. Ford beat Ken Doherty 4-0 in the previous match.

Other players through to finals day include Robert Milkins who beat world no.12 Peter Ebdon 4-3, Graeme Dott beat Stuart Bingham 4-3 and Barry Pinches got the better of a tense final frame decider with Ryan Day to win the match 4-3.
