After months of waiting the first day of competition in the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship's at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield has finally started! The fans were treated to a feast of Snooker on the opening day including a shock result in the Neil Robertson v Judd Trump opening match.

It's nearly that time of year again, the Betfred.com World Snooker Championships! In this first part of the preview for the first round matches we will be looking at the top half of the draw which includes; defending champion Neil Robertson, seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry and Masters champion Ding Junhui.

Its the fourth day at the Ladbrokes Mobile Masters at Wembley Arena, London, and the last of the first round matches play to a conclusion. So far six out of six top seeds have been knocked out, would Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy follow the trend? They faced the Crucible king Stephen Hendry and Masters newcomer Jamie Cope.

It's the end of the year and the end of professional competition for a few weeks until the Masters in January, so it's time to give out some awards to some players that have achieved the most on the baize over the last 12 months. Who will win the coveted Maximum Snooker Player of the Year title?

World Champion and world no.1 Neil Robertson will not be making the trip to Ireland next year for the PTC finals after loosing 4-2 to namesake Jimmy Robertson in Prague.
