147 Heaven for Stevens & Ding

147 Heaven for Stevens & Ding

Former UK Champions Matthew Stevens and Ding Junhui both made 147 breaks in PTC12 today. This comes just weeks after Mike Dunn, David Gray and Ricky Walden made maximum breaks themselves in pro competition. These are the 82nd and 83rd officially recognised 147's in pro snooker history.

Matthew Stevens Snooker PTC7 2011

Matthew Stevens 'The Welsh Dragon' has been a professional since 1994 and is a former UK and Masters champion and a two-times World Championship finalist but he has never achieved snooker's 'perfect game' a maximum 147 break. He finally managed to achieve this today in the final frame of his 4-0 PTC12 first round victory over young amateur Michael Wasley.

After recently winning last season's Championship League event and rejoining the top 16 at the start of this season Matthew seems to be playing back near his best and is once again a strong contender for reaching the latter stages of ranking events.

Ding JUnhui PTC2 snooker 2011

China's no.1 Ding Junhui has made two maximum breaks before in the 2007 Masters and the 2008 UK Championship and now he has made a third shortly after Matthew Stevens in PTC12 today in his first round win over amateur Brandon Winstone.

Ding is a two times UK Champion and he won the Masters last season but since reaching the World Championship semi-finals in April he hasn't hit top form so maybe making this break will inspire him in future months to come.
