Current China Open champion and World Championship finalist Judd Trump has been a strong performer in the PTC's this season and today in Antwerp he doubled up, winning his second PTC title of the season with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Ronnie O'Sullivan in front of a packed audience nearing 1500 spectators at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium.

Judd had already beaten the likes of John Higgins and Martin Gould on route to the final, but he faced an even tougher test against Ronnie, the first player to capture two PTC titles in the same season and of course a three-times world champion. Ronnie had been looking in strong form all tournament and only dropped five frames in his six matches on route to the final.

The record audience for a PTC event definitely wasn't dissappointed as it took only an hour for the Grove snooker boys to reach 3-3 in the best of seven including Ronnie making back-to-back centuries of 118 and 132. In the decider Judd fired in breaks of 44 and 41 including a timely fluke on the match ball to win the event.

"It was a really special match because the atmosphere was like the World Championship final, " said 22-year-old Trump. "Ronnie always gets more support so to deliver a performance like that against him gives me a boost. He makes big breaks and puts you under it. Even at 3-1 up I was just hoping for a chance to win it.

"This season has been pretty good so far, I've been more than happy with the way I've played. I lost my first match in the two main ranking events but I've done well in the PTC events and I'm really looking forward to the UK Championship and the Masters now because those are the big ones."

As for the success of the tournament in Belgium, Trump added: "I definitely think we could have a full ranking event here. The fans have been great and the players would be more than happy to come back."

It was great to see such massive audiences attending in Antwerp even during the early rounds of the pro matches. Having close to 1500 spectators come in would be amazing for a full ranking event but for a PTC event with only small ranking points and prize money on offer it is even more special.

A ranking event somewhere close to both Belgium and Poland would be a great idea as it has been shown both here and in Warsaw that there is a huge interest for this sport in central Europe and I hope that we will see another event sit shoulder to shoulder with the German Masters. Possibly a slightly longer or shorter format to distinguish it from it's best of 9 Berlin cousin?

Once again thanks to Monique Limbos for her photos from the event, it is always nice to see a different perspective of these tournaments that than you get from TV cameras.

Congratulations once more to Judd Trump, the Acurate Antwerp Open (PTC9) champion!
