Hendry Hits 147 In Newport
Stephen Hendry has turned back the years at the Wyldecrest Park Homes Welsh Open in Newport and he hit a 147 break against Stephen Maguire. This was his 10th 147 break in competition.

Stephen achieved this feat against fellow Scot Maguire in their last 16 clash today. He made the magical break in the very first frame of the match, a feat not achieved in a televised tournament since John Higgins hit a 147 in the 2000 Irish Masters. He potted 15 reds with 15 blacks then faced a tricky final pink and then slotted the black in and will recieve the maximum break prize of £1,000 unless someone else makes one.

Unfortunately for Hendry as seen with other players who make 147 breaks early on in matches he wasn't able to build on the momentum and it went downhill after that. Hendry had chances in the second but Maguire stole it on a respotted black, he then took the next with a 129 and then went 3-1 up in the scrappy 4th frame. Hendry looked ready for a comeback as Maguire missed the final red in the next and let his opponent come back to 3-2 but in the end it wasn't to be as Hendry missed the penultimate red in frame 6 allowing Maguire to win the match 4-2.
Even though he would of prefered to win the match and reach the quarter-finals it is still a great achievement for Hendry to have made his 10th competitive 147 during his illustrious career and him and his fans will now be more looking forward to the World Championship's than before this event.
