BGC Masters 2012 - Day 7 Semi-Finals Preview

13.00 GMT - Judd Trump v Neil Robertson

UK Championship 2011 - Judd Trump v Neil Robertson Snooker

First semi-final match up this afternoon features an exciting pairing of two-left handers; Judd Trump and Neil Robertson.

Both players have had pretty straightforward passes through to this stage. Trump struggled at times against Stuart Bingham but looked a lot more confident against Ronnie O'Sullivan and cruised through 6-2 in that match.

Robertson looked that he would be taken all the way against Mark Allen in his first match, but from 3-3 the Australian piled on the pressure to come through 6-3 and even with tip problems he managed to find enough to come through against Mark Williams yesterday.

In recent encounters were anything to go by you would have to fancy Trump to win once again today. Famously he beat Robertson in the UK semi-final and the first round of the world championship last year when Robertson was the defending champion. But Robertson has had the better of Judd recently, winning 4-1 in the final of the Alex Higgins International Trophy (PTC8) in Killarney.

The bookies Betfred have Trump the favourite to win the match at 8/15 but there is definitely some vanue for Robertson at 11/8. If you don't have an account with Betfred you can open one by clicking the banner at the top of the page.

With Robertson having tip problems and seeming like the least consistant of the two in the previous round I would have to favmake Judd Trump my choice to win the match. The young Bristolian is riding the crest of a wave after beating O'Sullivan in the previous round and it would take a lot to beat him.

Maximum Snooker Match Prediction - Judd Trump to win 6-3.

19.00 GMT - Shaun Murphy v John Higgins

The evenings semi-final is a repeat of the 2009 world championship final between Shaun Murphy and John Higgins.

Murphy's path to the semi's was relatively simple as debutant Martin Gould didn't play to a great standard in their first round clash and in the quarter-finals Mark Selby certainly wasn't at the races as Murphy came through a 6-2 winner.

Higgins had a simple match against Matthew Stevens to start off with and was tested in his second round match against Graeme Dott for the first half but Higgins stepped up a gear to win 6-3.

The last head to head encounter between the two was at the China Open all the way back in April so their isn't much to go from in recent encounters. Murphy has seen success recently though winning the second group at the championship league last week.

Betfred have made John Higgins the favourite at 4/7 but their is definitely some milage in backing Shaun Murphy at 5/4.

There isn't much to go at between the pair but I would have to make John Higgins favourite to win. He seems to be much more comfortable at Alexandra Palace than the old Wembley Arena and it seems to show.

If any match is likely to go down to a deciding frame though it could be this one. Both players are two of the best match and safety players of the modern game and it will probably go down to a few close frames.

Maximum Snooker Match Prediction - John Higgins to win 6-5.
